Help us fight for a Disability Safety Net – November 2017 (PDF version)

The fight against the privatisation has been long and hard and involved many of you over the years. Thank you for emailing your MP to help drive home the strength of opposition to removing the public sector as a direct provider of disability services.

Despite much of the privatisation going ahead, we have won more security and certainty in the employment and conditions of our members, which we all know leads to better outcomes for people with disability. An insecure workforce is not good for anyone.

Your email contributed to our political campaign resulting in commitment from Luke Foley to involve Government in the disability sector.

Mr Foley said again on 25 October 2017:

“We’ve made a commitment that under a Labor Government there will be a role for the state, for the State Government itself, in the provision of disability services.”

But the fight is not over. We must continue to fight for a publicly run service to ensure no person with disability falls through the cracks.

NDIS funding is inadequate to sustain the current support requirements of people with disability and will not cover all of the services and facilities that a civil society should provide.

That is why we will be holding a Safety Net Forum in Newcastle on 14 of November.

Please register to attend HERE.

If you are on Facebook, like the Disability Safety Net page HERE.

We will continue to show leadership in the disability sector to ensure proper support for people with disability, parents, advocates and carers are in place.
