NSW Police Bulletin re Crime Scene Officers Expert Allowance – 9 February 2015
NSW Police Bulletin re Crime Scene Officers Expert Allowance, 9 February 2015 (PDF version)
Meeting at the Police Minister’s office
In 2012 Police Officers in Forensic Services Group with expert qualifications received a $15 000 p.a. allowance, fully indexed, in the Industrial Relations Commission.
The PSA wrote to the Police Commissioner asking that similarly qualified civilian Crime Scene Officers, doing exactly the same work, be paid the allowance. NSW Police responded that because of the Government’s wages legislation, the allowance couldn’t be included in the NSW Police Force Administrative Officers and Temporary Employees award.
Following a highly successful lobbying campaign by Crime Scene Officer members and delegates in 2014, state members of Parliament contacted the Police Minister’s office asking him to look into the matter. A response was received by members, which did nothing to address their concerns, or ensure they were fairly remunerated.
The PSA wrote to the Police Minister’s office and, along with a Fingerprints Operations delegate, are attending a meeting there on 11 February. The PSA will ask that the Minister try to find a way to ensure that civilian Crime Scene Officers are paid fairly for the important work they do for the community of NSW.
Congratulations to those members and delegates who have worked so hard to bring the issue this far.
