POVB Bulletin – July 2017 (PDF Version)

Dear members,

Firstly, I would like to thank all of the members who took the time to vote in the recent John Morony survey. The members at John Morony have been, and are still going through, a very stressful time, and I’m sure your support means a lot to them.

This week the PSA held a delegate training session in Bathurst, facilitated by Anne Kennelly. Stewart Little and Dave McCauley visited the course members and explained to them their individual roles and functions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Anne, Stewart and Dave. There were 16 officers who participated in the training and the feedback has been very positive. We would like to hold delegate training for as many delegates as we can, and if we have enough interest will run a course in both the North and South Coast areas in the coming months.

The PSA is currently updating the Delegates Handbook which will be distributed to all of our delegates when complete. The PSA is committed to offering training and support for all of our delegates and in particular our country delegates, something that hasn’t happened in the past few years.

Benchmarking is of course still moving on and we are still in close consultation with the Department and centres that are currently being benchmarked, particularly South Coast, have a number of concerns that haven’t been addressed adequately at this time. Nicole attended Kariong yesterday and one of us will be attending Berrima, Tamworth, St Hilliers, Cessnock, Cooma and Manus to assist with the consultation process between now and early August. Benchmarking is still before the IRC. Therefore, any issues that arise during this process, from any centre, will be put before the IRC if consultation breaks down.

I would like to remind everyone about the POVB.org website. To register you just need your PSA member number which you can get by calling membership at PSA on 1300 772 679. We apologise to people who have already registered, as it hasn’t been updated for a couple of weeks due to our focus on the John Morony issue, but this will be rectified shortly. We encourage anyone who has a good news item for the website to contact Jason Charlton on 0401 500 976.

Finally can I reiterate that if you or someone you know receives a ‘show cause’ letter please contact us in the first instance, this will often help with the final outcome.

Thanks

Natalie Howes
