State Library NSW Merry Christmas from the PSA – December 2016 (PDF version)

The PSA wishes a Merry Christmas to all members at the State Library. We understand 2016 has been a challenging year for members. Yet it is with the spirit of unity, community and hope that we say goodbye to 2016 and look forward to a brighter 2017.

The Christmas closedown and you

Your leave provisions are important. The PSA would like to clarify that you cannot be forced to take leave on days which are not public holidays and public service holidays. This year, the holiday dates are the 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th of December and the 1st and 2nd of January 2017. The NSW Government encourages but does not require all non-frontline worksites to shut down over the Christmas to New Year period. You can only be directed to take leave during the Christmas closedown if you have an excess leave balance.

2016

The PSA fought hard for your rights in 2016. Due to the strength of our membership in the library, we launched a successful case in the Industrial Relations Commission to win consultation over the security restructure, changed management’s approach to your flexitime provisions and grew our membership base in recent months.

Your responses from the surveys run by the delegate committee have led to increased social gatherings run by your union. In addition to the Christmas Barbeque, we have initiated ‘Union Cake’, where you can discuss industrial relations and eat cake.

These events will continue in 2017 and are just the start. The PSA wants to hear what you have to say about how we can improve in 2017 so that, as a collective, we can work together to get the best result for you, the arts and the culture of NSW.

2017

In 2017, the PSA will continue to be a presence and a force at the State Library. We are providing members with a wide variety of training opportunities and bringing in a team structure at the PSA that will give you the industrial and campaigning support which you deserve. We intend for this new structure to provide the bedrock from which to expand and empower the union in your workplace.

But the core of our power as a union will always be you. Through supporting each other and standing together, you can make a real difference to your workplace and to the people around you. We look forward to working with you in 2017.

If you have any questions or need the support of your union, please speak to your local PSA delegate or contact the PSA’s Member Support Centre on 1300 772 679.
