School Psychologists PSA member survey - Public Service Association

School Psychologists PSA member survey

The PSA thanks all who were able to participate in the PSA member meeting on 11 September 2025 together with your advisory group delegates and PSA industrial staff.

During this state-wide meeting members shared the challenges of demanding workloads, and inconsistencies in working conditions, such as whether you get to take breaks during the day, how you record the hours you actually work on your flex sheets, and how critical incidents and phone calls concerning urgent matters, impact your working hours, outside of bandwidth hours.

Flexible Working Hours and the school environment

School Psychologists are entitled to flexible working hours, including flexible start and finish times within bandwidth as long as school operational hours are met. The rules and parameters of your flexible working conditions are contained in the Flexible Working Hours Agreement 2022, which is an agreement between the NSW Department of Education and the Public Service Association. The information you provide in response to the survey will assist to inform our understanding of whether the current agreement is being upheld and is operating as intended, for School Psychologists.

The PSA understands the importance of working professionally, safely, and sustainably in your role as a School Psychologist. We acknowledge that you must be able to take care of yourself, to maintain the capacity to help others, reflected in a new core competency of ‘self-care’.
