PSA ramps up pre-election pressure in key seats – ADHC Bulletin, 20 March 2015 (PDF version)

The PSA Defending Public Services campaign has entered another key pre-election phase.

The PSA, your union, has written to candidates in 23 key state seats reminding them of the negative impact of the privatisation of disability services. The letter sets out how many local residents have signed the PSA petition and invites the candidate to sign the PSA Pledge, if they have not already done so.

The PSA has also written directly to almost 3,500 petition signatories in these key seats, to place these issues at the forefront of their voting considerations immediately prior to the election.

The key message is that if the NSW Government walks away from providing disability support services to the most vulnerable in our society the quality and range of services available to people with disability will decline. Those working providing these vital services will also see a negative impact on their wages, conditions and the security of their employment.

Since delivering our petition of over 25,000 signatures to State Parliament at our rally on November 13 last year, PSA members and concerned community members have been expanding and reinforcing our message.

Throughout the state, PSA members have been doorknocking, running market stalls, letterboxing, rallying, visiting local Members of Parliament, taking snap actions, putting up corflutes and proudly wearing their campaign t-shirts. The PSA has put up a billboard on the Pacific Highway to highlight the issues in the NDIS trial area.

Community awareness of, and support for, the campaign is growing stronger. People with disability and their families have also seen through the spin of the pro-privatisation campaign. PSA members can show their support for vibrant properly funded public services and say no to privatisation by giving their vote to candidates who have signed our pledge and putting the Liberal/National candidates last.
