Bulletin to Education sites in the Western Sydney area

Bulletin to members at Education sites in the Western Sydney area – 1 October 2015 (PDF version)

My name is Marisa Bosco and I am your PSA Schools Organiser/representative for your area.

In the first week of school holidays, I visited numerous Department of Education worksites in Western Sydney including Nirimba office at Quakers Hill. Unfortunately I do not always get the opportunity to meet all the Administrative and Support Staff individually. However, I have left an information pack, including my business cards at the front office.

As your PSA Organiser, I would like to offer you the opportunity to hold a meeting at your site to ensure members and potential members are kept informed about upcoming changes and provide relevant information that relates to you rights and conditions of employment.

I have held meetings in the area including Blacktown State Office. If you are interested in holding a meeting you can contact me via the Member Support Centre on 1300 772679 or email to organise a day and time that is convenient.

Under your award, the PSA can hold meetings with members at agreed times.

Current hot topics

The new Department of Education Flexible Working Hours Agreement

Meetings are being held between the PSA staff, delegates and the Department in regards to the new proposed Flexible Working Hours agreement. These meeting are occurring on a weekly/fortnightly basis throughout October.

Main concerns that have been raised are as follows:

  • Bandwidth of hours

Following discussion with the PSA, the Department has amended the draft FWHA that the bandwidth of hours for the majority of the department will continue to be 7:30am to 6:00pm not the proposed 7:00am to 8:00pm.

  • Non-payment upon exit

Under the proposed FWHA, accumulated flex days will no longer be paid out to an employee on separation, this item is still under discussion.

  • Banking of hours

Under the new proposed FWHA the option of banking of flex time is to be removed, this item is still also under discussion.
