POVB bulletin overcrowding update

POVB member bulletin overcrowding update 23 November 2015 (PDF version)

This State Government’s knee jerk decision to close three jails during its term and its inability to plan for the future is creating mayhem. This is compounded by its attack on workers compensation.

Last week, the PSA sought a meeting with Premier Mike Baird to highlight prison overcrowding and to ask for immediate consideration of workers comp issues such as PIAWE and the denial of the ability to top up workers comp payments with sick leave.

I acknowledge that the Premier is a very busy man however, given the urgency of the situation and the increased safety risks members face, it is very disappointing that we have now received a negative response. The Premiers’ office has said he is unable to meet with PSA General Secretary Anne Gardiner and myself to try and resolve these matters.

Maybe if we were proposing a new casino we might get a meeting. We understand that we can’t let this go and I will keep you updated.
