Department of Justice – Lifting Community Corrections work bans – July 2016 (PDF version)
On 12 July 2016, the PSA issued a bulletin to members working in Community Corrections directing them not to undertake certain tasks.
As a result, the Department of Justice took the PSA to the Industrial Relations Commission to have the bans lifted.
The dispute was listed on 14 July 2016 before Commissioner Newall.
Whilst Commission Newall was sympathetic to the workload of Community Corrections Officers, he clearly stated that the ban was in breach of the award conditions and stated:
- He strongly recommended the bans be lifted immediately
- The parties must engage in consultation as soon as possible to resolve the subject matter of the ban.
Commissioner Newall granted leave to parties to relist the dispute if consultation was unsuccessful.
Bearing in mind the strong recommendation of Commissioner Newall and the consultation meeting scheduled for Friday 29 July, the PSA and CCVBAG delegates have lifted the ban imposed on 12 July 2016.
The PSA will update members via a bulletin of the outcome of the meeting on 29 July, 2016.
