PSA wins extension of contracts at Firearms Registry, but regional jobs still in firing line

PSA wins extension of contracts at Firearms Registry, but regional jobs still in firing line – June 2018 (PDF version)

The PSA lodged a consultation dispute in the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) against NSW Police after our members were advised of a proposal to delete roles in the Firearms Registry.

PSA members were also advised the contracts of long-term temporary staff would not be extended beyond 30 June 2018.

The PSA, in its dispute, argued the deletion of roles was completely unacceptable and that there had been no consultation or information sharing.

The PSA had a meeting with the NSW Police as required by the IRC and requested extension of the temporary contracts and change management documentation.

The dispute was listed today, Friday, 15 June 2018, for conciliation. At the conciliation NSW Police advised that it had now extended the temporary contracts until 1 September 2018.

NSW Police is also committed to ongoing consultation in relation to any restructure proposal and provision of change management documentation to the PSA.

The PSA has also sought change management support for members affected by any restructure and will continue to fight for ongoing employment for our members in the Firearms Registry.

PSA members at the Registry have done a fantastic job in banding together to fight these cuts and building community support behind the importance of permanent Public Sector jobs in regional areas.

This fight must continue!

The PSA will continue to campaign against job cuts in regional areas. The best way to join the campaign is by getting your colleagues to join the union online HERE or by filling out and returning PSA Membership Form available HERE.
