Climate Change – National Day of Action

National Day of Action - Feb 2020 (PDF version)

The climate crisis has become impossible to ignore and Australians are witnessing first hand some of the devastating consequences of our inaction.

“Unprecedented” bushfires are shattering people’s lives; water shortages are pushing many towns to crisis point; millions have endured weeks or months of hazardous air quality, and more than a billion native animals have been killed.

The Prime Minister and many in our governments, both state and federal, still refuse to accept the reality of climate change.

Funding for recovery is important but is not enough – we need to address the cause of this climate crisis and start making drastic reductions to greenhouse gas emissions in Australia and globally.

Despite decades of scientific analysis and warnings successive governments have failed to take the decisive action necessary to address global warming and the resultant climate emergency.

This failure to act, along with the refusal by current state and federal climate denial governments to heed the stark advice by experts that we were on the brink of a catastrophe and respond favourably to their pleas, has contributed to a level of devastation that could have been averted.

A National Day of Action on Saturday 22 February 2020 has been called by a coalition of climate justice organisations, unions and other community groups to push forward on demands for government action.

The Sydney event is being held at Sydney Town Hall from 2:00pm. The PSA/CPSU NSW encourages its members to take part in the National Day of Action.
