The Heavy Vehicle Legislation Amendment (National Regulator) Bill 2021, effecting the transfer Heavy Vehicle Inspection scheme and Heavy Vehicle National Law functions from Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) passed Parliament on 6 May 2021.
The day after Parliament passed the bill, the PSA met with NHVR and TfNSW. TfNSW and NHVR assured the PSA consultation will continue; all present agreed to meet regularly as part of consultation on the transfer of services and employees, with a wide range of matters to be the subject of consultation.
NHVR assured it wishes to take steps to mitigate the transfer’s impact on employees and work with the PSA.
At this stage, TfNSW is still in the process of identifying what the ‘dual function’ (i.e. NHVS) roles transitioning to NHVR will look like. TfNSW has assured the PSA consultation with the PSA will occur once TfNSW has completed this piece of work.
Another meeting with NHVR and TfNSW is scheduled for 24 June 2021. The PSA will continue to keep members updated.
