Radio Operations Group management finally confirms cancellation of Penrith relocation plan

AC Stacey Maloney has recently confirmed in an email to Penrith Police Radio staff that the plan to close the Penrith Radio Operations Centre has been scrapped. The PSA has been aware for some time that the move would not go ahead, and made this clear in communications to members. Management’s decision to formally continue the consultation period sowed doubt among some staff members that the plan might still be going ahead, causing unnecessary stress over the Christmas period.

This great outcome has only happened as a result of a highly effective campaign by the PSA, the Police Association and you, the union members. The unions and members lobbied politicians, contacted the media, held a rally and filed a dispute in the Industrial Relations Commission. Without this effort, everyone from Penrith Radio would now be facing the prospect of working in Surry Hills.

This whole episode is proof that it pays to be a PSA member, and to have strong union organisation in the workplace. Without a strong membership in VKG, this proposal would almost certainly have gone ahead.

Thank you from the PSA – you’ve shown that no matter what may be thrown at you, you’re willing to band together to make effective change.
