Audit Office of NSW: Update of Flexible Working Practices Policy
On 8 November 2024 the Audit Office of NSW wrote to the PSA advising it intended to commence consultation with staff for a revised Flexible Work Practices Policy.
This follows a direction from the Premier in August that employees should work primarily from an approved workplace unless a flexible working arrangement has been approved.
What are the changes?
Two key changes are proposed for the updated policy including the introduction of a:
- standard work practice that entails staff work a minimum of 50 per cent of their contracted hours either at head office, an auditee location, or a related worksite (such as a training venue). Should an employee need to balance this attendance over a fortnight (with more hours worked in one week than the other) then a minimum of one day per week attendance will apply.
- new process to formalise individual flexibility agreements between individuals and managers to support employees who need additional flexibility. This may be for a variety of reasons such as part-time working, challenges related to proximity to or accessibility to your workplace, or to accommodate caring arrangements.
The Audit Office proposes for the updated policy to replace the existing Flexible Work Practices Policy and Flexible Work Practices Model.
A copy of the updated policy, along with some frequently asked questions, is HERE.
When will the changes be implemented?
These changes will be implemented gradually to enable staff to have ample time to make arrangements that will support adherence to the updated policy.
Full implementation of the policy will take effect form 31 March 2025.
How can you have your say?
Members should review the consultation documentation and provide any issues or concerns to the PSA via email to
