Change is coming to Safework: an update on PSA consultation with management
PSA has been briefed by the Department of Customer Service (DCS) and Deputy Secretary Trent Curtin in relation to a proposed restructure in Safework, as a result of criticism by both government and the McDougall review regarding structural concerns.
Consultation is now open and closes on 23 July 2024 with an expected go live date in November 2024.
It is expected that Safework will become independent of DCS early next year however will continue to be associated with the Department and remain in the cluster.
SafeWork’s proposal includes introducing more roles for Inspectors but there will be a reduction in some roles.
While they say they want to retain as many staff as possible, there is still potential for impacted staff to find themselves going through the mobility program.
PSA will begin meeting with the Deputy Secretary for SafeWork, Trent Curtin, through a revamped JCC and other meetings which Vocational Group delegates will attend with industrial staff. We understand that SafeWork members who are not Inspectors also need to be represented through this process and will be reaching out to those members in the coming weeks. In the interim non-Inspectors can also raise concerns with VG delegates.
PSA industrial staff and delegates will meet regularly with management as the Restructure Management Plans (RMPs) progress and keep members updated as we go along.
If you have feedback you wish to submit in relation to the proposals or concerns you wish to raise, please contact member support on or 1800 772 679 quoting reference number 222675.
