Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water: Grants Branch restructure announced

  15 May 2026

The Public Service Association (PSA) has been notified of a proposed restructure in the Grants Branch of Strategic Policy, Science and Engagement Group within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). Your union understands a town hall meeting was held on Thursday 14 May.

The PSA understands this proposal is part of a review following the Towards One changes. While there are no proposed cuts to non-executive staff, we understand a number of vacant roles are to be deleted. Two new EO14 roles are to be created, with approximately 47 staff to be realigned under them in the proposed structure, including some with changes to role descriptions.

DCCEEW is aware of its obligations to consult meaningfully on organisational change, and has indicated this proposal follows a significant informal co-design process on a number of possible structures.

This formal consultation focuses on one proposed structure and is open for a period of two weeks.

The PSA wants your feedback

Please review the change management plan and any proposed changes to your role. Send your feedback – whether positive, critical or neutral – to PSA Member Support Centre at and  Organiser Michael Parsons at
