Your union and delegates Kieren Streat, Simon Dawson and Margie Buttigieg met with management to discuss the concerns raised by Driver Testers (DTs) around changes made by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to the requirements for medical clearances. This was followed up with a further discussion within the Service NSW Joint Consultative Committee.
We were advised that an outstanding medical clearance is still current until it expires.
We raised safety concerns. Service does not believe that safety risks to DTs are increased by the change in TfNSW’s procedure around calls to the Licence Review Unit before conducting the tests for customers who have an outstanding medical clearance, as the medicals clearances are still current.
Service NSW advised that DTs are issued with safety cards and mobile phones to assist them in emergency situations including if customers have medical emergencies.
Service NSW, Service Delivery Operations committed to providing a communication to DTs once the newsflash from TfNSW about the change in procedure is available. We do not believe that has occurred and have contacted Service to request that happens.
PSA notes that Service NSW will review the process for aged licences and provide feedback to TfNSW. If you would like to provide feedback for Service NSW in relation to this, please contact member support on or 1800 772 679 quoting reference number 227099
