Enterprise Bargaining update for University of Sydney

Enterprise Bargaining update for University of Sydney

  10 June 2026

Your union has concluded four Enterprise Bargaining meetings since our last bulletin.

We received a financial briefing from the university and this will assist us in informing our negotiations, especially as we progress towards a response from the university on our leave claims and to a pay offer. Progress was also made towards improving provisions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment at the university. Discussions on this topic were led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives.

In the last two meetings on 2 and 3 June, the CPSU NSW presented its claims for reproductive health leave, allowing a top up of leave to be accessed if personal leave will foreseeably be exhausted where investigation of reproductive health matters continue for an indeterminate period.

We have secured in-principle agreement from the university to allow unused funds from the Professional Staff Development Fund to be re-allocated to applicants previously denied prior to its roll-over.

We are awaiting a response from the university on our claim to seek a $300,000 increase to the overall fund.

Parties also commenced discussions around artificial intelligence (AI). While the CPSU NSW acknowledged the fast-paced nature at which AI is being adopted and is proliferating, we stressed the importance of ensuring the introduction of any AI system or tool needed to be done so to augment the work that staff do, and not replace them.

The university is set to respond to our claims on AI no earlier than our meetings commencing the week of 29 June.

Your union will continue to provide updates on the bargaining process and on your claims.

We continue to seek any feedback in relation to the negotiations or date, including any relevant information that could assist us in prosecuting your claims.
