Following our historic win in the Industrial Relations Commission test case, which can be seen HERE, the PSA Field Officers Working Group met with Corrective Services NSW on 3 July 2026 to begin discussions about the next steps and to build the case for Field Officers in similar circumstances to be considered permanent.
This was an important first meeting, with a range of issues raised to ensure members’ experiences and concerns are front and centre as discussions continue. Topics included:
- Suitable duties that could be undertaken when shifts are unavailable, such as during bad weather or when there are insufficient participants.
- Departmental reporting structures for Field Officer employees.
- Compensation for lost, shortened or cancelled shifts.
- Employment options for members who wish to remain casual, or who require greater flexibility around when they are available for duty.
- Professional development and career opportunities.
Corrective Services NSW has committed to reviewing these matters and developing possible options for moving forward. Once those options are provided, the PSA will carefully review them and obtain legal advice where required to ensure members’ interests are protected.
A further meeting will be scheduled once Corrective Services NSW has responded to the issues discussed on 3 July.
We know members are keen to see progress, and we will continue to keep you updated as discussions advance. Thank you for your ongoing support and solidarity as we work towards securing fair and lasting outcomes for Field Officers.
