Heritage Core tours extended
The PSA has had another win – tours of the Heritage Core will continue until the end of 2020. This is a step in the right direction.
This initial extension will allow more shifts for PSA members – shifts that will help to pay rent and put food on the table.
PSA members can be proud of the part they played in continually pressuring the NSW government to grant this extension.
Unfortunately, despite the extension, ‘Ecologic’, ‘Experimentations, ‘Apollo 11’, ‘Icons’, the ‘Mars Yard’ and the ‘Wiggles’ will still be closed.
At Tuesday’s morning tea, many PSA members asked, “Why doesn’t the NSW Government just reopen the entire museum?”
Mothballing parts of the Powerhouse Museum just doesn’t make sense, leaving PSA members unemployed.
Reopening the Powerhouse Museum would provide employment security for PSA members over the next three years.
Reopening the Powerhouse Museum would mean an estimated 180,000 school kids will still get to go on their school excursions, once they recommence. Children would get to see Ecologic, Experimentations and the Mars Rover. Kids may be inspired towards a career in STEM thanks to a visit to the Powerhouse Museum.
The PSA is therefore calling on the NSW Premier and Minister for the Arts Gladys Berejiklian: reopen the Powerhouse Museum.
