Land and Property Information petition

Land & Property Information petition – August 2016 (PDF version)

As members may be aware, the NSW Government has proposed that Land and Property Information’s (LPI) Titling and Registry Services component – which provides up to $70 million annually for NSW – be privatised.

The current titling service was established in 1863 and is considered to be one of the most robust and reliable land title systems in the world, containing approximately 7.7 million properties.

Workers at LPI stopped work for the third time in recent months on Thursday 30 June and rallied to protest against the privatisation of this critical service and its sensitive property data.

To raise public awareness, members have developed a petition with a view to tabling it in Parliament and forcing open discussions on the matter.

LPI members are now urging all PSA members to support them in the fight to stop the privatisation of LPI.

To do this, we are asking all members to get at least one petition completed and returned via post to Organiser Merv Christensen at Public Service Association, 160 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000 by 6 September 2016.

The petition can be found HERE.

Petitions need to be originals for them to be accepted by Parliament, so unfortunately we cannot accept emailed copies.

Privatising the Titling and Registry Services provided by NSW Land and Property will result in:

  • Loss of public revenue of approximately $70 million
  • Loss of state government guarantee of secure land title in NSW
  • Loss of security for sensitive personal data/land ownership records
  • Higher fees for land and property services in NSW
  • Loss of job security for current LPI employees
  • Forced transfer of LPI staff to private interests with diminished employment conditions.
