Member ballot overwhelmingly supports transfer to administrative leave conditions
The ballot put to Special Constables members on the transfer from Ministerial Leave conditions to Administrative Leave conditions closed at 9am on Monday, 26 March 2018.
Thanks to all members who took the time to vote and give their feedback, as well as delegates past and present whose tireless efforts have seen us get to this point. The result of the ballot is that an overwhelming 90 per cent of voting members were in favour of the transition.
The PSA will write to NSW Police to accept the offer, with a proposed implementation date of 1 May 2018. The PSA will further look to recommence bargaining on other matters from the log of claims.
PSA delegates and staff are also closely monitoring the finalisation of the Special Constables role descriptions. An assessment will be made of any implications for members and further updates will be given when the process has been completed.
Lastly, the Special Constables Advisory Group Chair and PSA Industrial staff met with Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn to present a number of long-standing opportunities for improvement in the respect and recognition of the Special Constable role. This includes the sworn nature of the role, the need for uniform-appropriate service awards, potential accreditation of the Special Constable Training program, and the highly inadequate rate of the Overtime Meal Allowance. Progress in the ongoing Award negotiations and translation to role descriptions were also discussed.
The PSA will continue to update members on progress on these matters as it comes to hand.
United we bargain; divided we beg – if you have colleagues who are still on the sidelines while you all fight for your pay and conditions, get them to join the PSA today!
