Member-led WIN: Masks now a condition of entry at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences

Powerhouse Masks - Jan 2021 (PDF version)

Members will be glad to hear that, as of this week, masks are now a condition of entry at Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) sites. These sites include the Ultimo Powerhouse Museum, the Observatory and the Museum Discovery Centre.

This is a win for Work Health and Safety, as masks act as a barrier to infection. With masks now a condition of entry, frontline PSA members can have confidence that they, visitors and the community will have a higher level of protection from risk of infection.

This is also a win for jobs. Masks reduce the risk of infection, and therefore reduces the risk of the MAAS closing due to an outbreak. If MAAS stays open, then frontline PSA members can keep working.

The decision to make masks a condition of entry brings MAAS into line with the Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of NSW, the State Library of NSW and other Cultural Institutions.

This was a member led win and is a testament to the collective strength of the PSA membership.
