NSW Police Firearms Registry dispute – February 2019 (PDF version)
Following discussions with NSW Police Force and feedback from a meeting of Firearms Registry members, the PSA on Monday 18 February withdrew an industrial dispute regarding advertising of new roles at the Registry.
The PSA met earlier with NSW Police Force on Friday 15 February, pursuant to the industrial dispute.
The meeting was constructive and NSW Police Force provided relevant consultation information such as a revised Organisation chart and Role Descriptions. The PSA sought a copy of the proposed Change Management Plan if a restructure proposal is announced, to ensure meaningful input into the outcome and to protect the interests of all members.
NSW Police confirmed the recently advertised roles are to meet the current needs of the Firearms Registry and do not impact adversely upon roles that currently exist in the Registry.
The PSA also noted restructures are stressful for all concerned and can create Work Health and Safety risks. NSW Police assured the PSA that all relevant policies in relation to Dignity and Respect in the workplace will apply in the Registry.
The PSA notes that this Dispute was lodged to ensure consultation in relation to changes in the Registry and to protect members from being adversely affected by any change.
The PSA has actively engaged with NSW Police Force about the Firearms Registry since the dispute was first lodged in May 2018. The PSA has worked hard to ensure greater consultation, extension of temporary contracts and job security in the Registry. The PSA’s involvement prevented the loss of temporary positions in the unit last year and has made it more likely that the Registry will remain at its current location. In addition to consultation meetings, the PSA has also raised concerns about the Firearms Registry at Joint Consultative Committee meetings with NSW Police to ensure your rights are protected.
The PSA has now withdrawn the dispute, on the basis that there be liberty to relist the matter if issues of concern arise.
