Office of Children’s Guardian Health and Safety Representatives
In light of the Special Ministerial Inquiry into the workplace culture of the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG), the OCG have started steps to energise workplace health and safety (WHS). A key part to this is electing Health and Safety Representatives (HSR).
HSRs are empowered to raise concerns around WHS and have legislated rights to take proactive measures in keeping staff safe. These reps are nominated by staff and must undertake specific training in order to hold the role.
In an email on Friday 10 October 2025 the OCG has made some suggestions, and asked for your feedback on workgroups and how best to implement a stronger, more proactive approach.
We support this step and would like to meet with members and our WHS Specialist to discuss options and how to get the best and most out of HSRs. We want to hear your ideas and feed it back, as you are best placed to advise how to help.
