Premier and Cabinet confirms Government plans to cut jobs

Cuts - Feb 2021 (PDF version)

As members may be aware, Premier and Cabinet Secretary Tim Reardon has confirmed the Government will continue its relentless attacks on public sector jobs in the name of efficiency savings, emailing Premier and Cabinet staff about an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for voluntary redundancies in order to “implement the next round of necessary efficiency savings”. Employees eligible to participate in the voluntary redundancy EOI program will be advised by their relevant Deputy Secretary or delegate between 2-5 February 2021.

Following the EOI process, branches will be reviewed to determine whether further operational efficiencies can be identified. If so, formal restructures supported by change management plans will occur. One thing is for sure, this process will result in fewer jobs in NSW.

Despite the Government maintaining that saving and creating jobs is its no.1 priority, and that freezing public sector salaries would allow this, Premier and Cabinet has confirmed these are just hollow words lacking any substance.

“While we all wait for the COVID-19 vaccine to arrive, the NSW Government is determined to  treat the economic symptoms of the pandemic by saving and creating as many jobs as            possible” Gladys Berejiklian

“Our strong budget position has allowed us to weather the most severe economic storm in a   generation, and we will continue to lead the way in job creation” Dominic Perrottet

Government Media Release 16 November 2020

Premier and Cabinet had failed to consult with the PSA before announcing this major workforce transition, and the PSA will provide further information about action we will take in the Industrial Relations Commission shortly.

The PSA calls on the NSW Government – stop these mean and tricky job cuts.
