Prison Officers Vocational Branch bulletin: new process for handling POVB misconduct matters

To better assist Prison Officers Vocational Branch (POVB) members who are accused of misconduct by Corrective Services NSW, we have established a new way to receive assistance from your union.  If you or anyone you work with receives a misconduct allegation, please send that allegation to

When submitting a matter, please include the following:

  1. A copy of the correspondence or letter you received regarding the Misconduct issue; and
  2. The date the matter was served on you (i.e., the date you received the notification).

This new process helps us to ensure that no paperwork goes missing and that every matter is properly recorded and actioned. Once we have received your allegations, you will receive a confirmation email with further advice, and your matter will be allocated to an Industrial Officer to assist you with preparing a response.

Importantly, you are normally provided 14 days to respond from the date the letter is served on you. If your due date is approaching, you may wish to seek an extension of time.

The contact details for the person you must email to request an extension are generally located at the bottom of your misconduct letter.

We encourage members to begin drafting your response as soon as possible and send your draft through to   The earlier we receive your response, the more time we will have to assist you.
