Productive Meeting with CSNSW Senior Executives
We are pleased to update you on a recent meeting between PSA representatives and Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) senior executives, including Deputy Commissioner Security & Custody Dr Martin and Assistant Commissioners Custody, Mr Smith, and Mr Buckley.
Your representatives had the opportunity to present our position on workplace flexibility and raise significant concerns on behalf of our members.
The discussion was positive and constructive, with CSNSW management acknowledging our concerns and engaging in meaningful dialogue. A key focus of the meeting was the inconsistencies in flexible work practices across correctional centres. The PSA highlighted issues including differences in permitted times to be on-site, variations in remote working options, and the need for clearer and more consistent communication from CSNSW around these practices.
Your PSA representatives emphasised the benefits of flexible work practices, including.
- Increased productivity and key performance indicators (KPI’s)
- Less unplanned absences
- Improved staff wellbeing, through enhanced work – life balance
- Better retention of staff
The PSA acknowledge that operations of correctional centres need to be maintained, however these should be transparent and clearly communicated to members.
As a result of these discussions, CSNSW has agreed that a working party will be established. This group will provide oversight and work through areas of concern, ensuring all decisions align with Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ) flexible work policy and procedures.
The PSA supports flexible work practices for its members.
We will continue to advocate for our members and keep you informed on the progress of these discussions. Your input remains valuable, so please feel free to share any additional concerns or feedback with your local Non-custodial Departmental Committee (NCDC) representatives.
