Today the State Executive of the Commissioned Officers Vocational Branch (COVB) – Darren Wells, David Freyer, Angela Feeney and David Bartle (PSA) – appeared in the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) before Commissioner Webster regarding our motion to pause sick leave reviews until more supports are put in place.

During conciliation, it has been agreed that CSNSW:

• send a memo to COVB members with links to policies and procedures outlining the steps to follow for sick leave reviews to ensure that all members are conducting sick leave reviews consistently.
• provide a written response to our recent correspondence and meetings regarding this matter by no later than 6 May 2025.
• discuss updated training models and increased support for difficult matters.
• not proceed with any PSI matters for prior failures to conduct sick leave reviews.

Commissioner Webster has asked that we recommence sick leave reviews in the interim until we have a resolution.  We advised the Commission that our membership needs to vote on rescinding the motion.

In good faith the COVB State Executive recommend the lifting of our current motion to not perform sick leave reviews to assist with ongoing negotiations and to keep the dialogue flowing and be respectful to achieve an amicable solution for us all.

We ask that all local sub-branches please meet, conduct a local vote and advise Chairperson Wells of your decision by 2pm on Friday 2 May 2025.
