PSA CPSU NSW Young Workers Update
PSA CPSU NSW Young Workers Update – April 2019 (PDF version)
2018 was a busy year for us, and 2019 is looking to be even busier! Here’s what we’ve been up to so far:
Young workers training days
Late last year we held two training days at PSA House tailored to our younger members. Members learnt a bit about the history of the PSA and unionism in the public sector, and organizing in your workplace.
Union Summer
This year we hosted four students as part of the Union Summer program. The participants experienced three weeks of what it’s like to work for the PSA, from participating in organising union meetings to sitting in on hearings in the Industrial Relations Commission.
Fair Day + Mardi Gras
Our members participated in the Mardi Gras festivities this year, but it wasn’t all a party. Members helped out at the joint Union Pride Fair Day stall and learnt an extensive dance routine for the Mardi Gras parade.
Save The State phone bank
We know none of us want to think about the State election any more than we have to, but your union got out there and gave it a real go. We held a phone banking session for our younger members and called the electorate of Barwon, which just saw a new member elected to parliament.
Coming up, save the date: May Day
Put this in your diaries because it’s going to be huge:
- When: Sunday 5 May, 11 AM
- Where: Hyde Park North
Join us and all the other unions and community groups as we march to Change the Rules!
