Why we’re taking action
The Government plans to slash $20 million from the EPA and “delimit” 370 roles — including 182 staff directly impacted (55 temporary and 69 permanent).
These cuts will gut the EPA’s capacity to protect NSW communities and the environment, from contaminated land and PFAS pollution to asbestos oversight, major project regulation, and emergency response.
These cuts threaten:
- Regulation of contaminated sites and groundwater
- Oversight of PFAS contamination
- Lead management at Broken Hill
- Asbestos fill oversight in Parramatta
- Regulation of Sydney Water and major hazardous facilities
- Assessment of major projects (Sydney Metro, WestConnex)
- EPA’s critical incident response capacity
These aren’t just job cuts — they’re cuts to public safety and environmental protection.
Remember:
This is your lunch break — you’re free to spend it how you choose.
Spend it standing up for your job, your colleagues, and the environment.
Bring your placards, voices, and solidarity. Let’s make sure the Government hears Queanbeyan loud and clear!
