PSA win: Remuneration increase for Transport Senior Service Managers staff confirmed

On Monday 24 March 2025, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) confirmed it  had approved a remuneration increase of up to 4 four per cent for eligible Transport Senior Service Managers (TSSM) employees.  This announcement comes as the PSA negotiates with Public Sector Industrial Relations (PSIR) for a standalone Award to cover TSSM staff, so that future pay increases, as well as conditions of employment, are contained and protected within an Award.

Without an Award, remuneration increases will continue to be either granted, or not granted, at the discretion of TfNSW.

TfNSW confirmed it is working towards the increase being applied to eligible employees from the April 2025 pay cycle, and will be backdated and applied to 1 July 2024.

Legislative requirements still too restrictive

The increases are subject to remuneration caps. TSSMs are encouraged to view TfNSW’s intranet page to see if the increase applies to their specific situation. As outlined in previous bulletins, remuneration levels for TSSMs are subject to the Transport Administration Act.  The Act states,“The remuneration level for Transport Service senior managers is to be less than that for any Transport Service senior executive and more than that for a clerk (grade 12) in the Public Service with general administrative duties.”

Pay increases for Award employees, as well as pay freezes for TSSE staff, has meant that the bandwidth in which to maintain different levels of remuneration is reducing.

This is why the PSA has been in discussions with PSIR and the Government advocating for change for TSSMs. Without this change, remuneration increases will be increasingly unavailable for TSSM staff.

The PSA is the union for Government Sector workers, and will continue campaigning for TSSMs by securing long-term change.
