PSA writes to Commissioner seeking consultation regarding staffing and TZ

Consultation re Staffing and TZ - June 2020 (PDF version)

The PSA wrote to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mick Fuller APM, on 10 June 2020 requesting consultation on Radio Operations Group (ROG) bushfire staffing and revised arrangements for taking Triple-Zero calls. A copy of the letter can be viewed HERE.

The PSA’s request follows ongoing fallout from short-staffing during the summer bushfire season and more recently, the taking on of TZ calls to assist with the COVID emergency. Staff have been struggling at times to cope with these recent challenges.

The PSA is actively pursuing with NSW Police on the need of:

  • Adequate staffing during off-peak times
  • Extra staffing during predicted emergencies
  • Rosters which promote adequate staffing and a clear policy regarding shared responsibility with PoliceLink for TZ calls.

These policies have been developed by your PSA delegates.

PSA Delegates at ROG Centres continue to work actively to collect feedback from members and consult with management about the future of Police Radio and Communications Officers, both short and long-term.

Make sure that you encourage other operators to JOIN the PSA so we can have a united response to current and future challenges.

If you have any questions or ideas, please raise them with your local delegates or send them to the PSA Office.
