Red Tape Winter 2026

Red Tape Winter 2026

Public services are at the centre of a better future for NSW.

This Winter edition of Red Tape looks at the major challenges facing our state, and the PSA CPSU NSW members standing up for the services, communities and workplaces NSW relies on.

Housing is no longer just a private struggle. In this issue, we report on the PSA’s major housing affordability campaign, which shows public sector workers across NSW are facing severe housing stress, long commutes and, in some cases, homelessness despite being employed.

We also highlight the union’s call for domestic violence services to be delivered as a core public sector responsibility. With Police receiving a domestic violence-related call every three minutes, the need for properly funded, accountable and government-run services has never been clearer.

This edition also looks at the future of disability support in NSW, as changes to the NDIS leave more people at risk of falling through the cracks. PSA CPSU NSW members continue to provide vital support to vulnerable people, and the union is calling for a state-run safety net.

We celebrate important union wins, including the $1000 cost-of-living payment secured through the PSA’s wages agreement, a major Corrective Services field officer decision with sector-wide implications, and meal allowance back pay for Police members.

Inside, we also farewell Ann Weldon, a proud Wiradjuri woman and tireless advocate for Aboriginal members, and recognise the members, delegates and activists who keep our union strong.

There are updates from Annual Conference, Women at Work, disability inclusion, emergency services, universities, TAFE, cultural institutions and retired associates.

As always, Red Tape is a snapshot of the members who protect, support and strengthen NSW every day.
