Safety and security in Juvenile Justice centres

Inquiry into Baxter - Aug 2019 (PDF version)

The PSA has been asked to make a submission into the Independent Review of the incident at Frank Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre. The General Secretary Stewart Little and delegates met with Minister Ward and the Investigator, Lee Shearer last week to discuss safety in Juvenile Justice centres.

Attached are the inquiry’s Terms of Reference, which are heavily focussed on safety and security in Juvenile Justice centres.

The PSA’s submission into the Inquiry is being coordinated by Shay Deguara, Manager of the Industrial Support team, which looks after Work Health and Safety. He will be doing this in a manner similar to how the PSA’s submission into the Parklea Gaol Inquiry was done. That is, by interviewing PSA members in each centre to get stories and suggestions for the PSA submission, thus protecting individuals. Please indicate to Laura Moss who you think would be worth interviewing from your centre and the topics you’d like covered. Her email address is ">.
