Safety Suite reports discussed at Homes NSW Western Sydney Joint Consultative Committee meeting

The quarterly Joint Consultative Committee meeting (JCC) was held on 16 October 2025 for the Western Sydney district. JCCs are an important platform for discussions on matters affecting our members in the district, and the Public Service Association (PSA) attended with your district’s delegates and leadership.

Key discussions on 16 October included:

Functional Review

Leadership stated that most staff got their first or second preference in the Functional Review, which kicked off in the district on Monday 20 October. A couple of members are still in the process of reconsideration and leadership said they are happy to review. ‘Survival packs’ have been handed out to staff to support them through the changes and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) continues to offer onsite support in the Parramatta and Blacktown offices. As part of the realignment, every office will have a bonding day in November where they will go offsite to connect, debrief and relax.

Staff will also receive a follow-up survey asking them about the change process and whether anything could have been done better.

Rolling recruitment and LEAP

Leadership said new staff are onboarded every four weeks as part of the rolling recruitment program. Recruitment for roles grade 5/6 and above are done by direct appointment and are not part of the rolling recruitment program. CSOs and leaders are required to complete LEAP and are given allocated time to do it. Leadership explained that it’s a team effort to make sure everyone gets through the training and that there were a few instances where staff had to re-submit work. There are regular catch ups with staff to discuss how LEAP is completed and to find out how they get through it. There remains questions around recognition of prior learning (RPL) and whether to allocate time to staff to apply for RPL.

Work health and safety

Leadership said there were 22 Safety Suite reports in September. Most were verbal abuse or threats. There were two reports of psychological trauma relating to the change process. A client was also barred from visiting offices in the district because they threw an object in one of the offices.

Members are reminded to report all incidents – your safety at work is not negotiable.

That was the last JCC meeting for the Western Sydney district for 2025. Meetings for 2026 will be scheduled in the new year.

Members are encouraged to share any issues they have with local delegates, particularly around any of the points raised here.
