The PSA has become aware that there are a number of issues surrounding Flextime presenting at SARA. We are conducting a members’ meeting this Friday 3 May to listen to and gather your concerns.
Please refer to the attached Meeting Notice. Try to attend the meeting and encourage non-members to attend and join the PSA – representations to management will be made on behalf of members only.
We can advise that major changes to operations, such as hours or work/attendance, should be consulted over. Access to Flextime is subject to “Operational Requirements” but there needs to be genuine reasons, not managers simply saying no. You should expect the reasons for any denial to be provided in writing/email.
Further, it is not up to a manager to reject an application for flex leave based on their assumption that a staff member won’t be able to make up the time and be under the 10 hours debit at the conclusion of the settlement period.
