Student Support Officers Update

The PSA thanks our SSO members for your commitment and perseverance in supporting your school communities during such difficult and trying circumstances. You have gone above and beyond to support your school communities from the teaching staff, to students and families, as well as each other. We hope that you can be proud of your work and find time to look after yourselves and recharge.

Need assistance at work?

As your union, the PSA is here to support you. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact us for support, advice and advocacy on 1300 772 679, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Your Workplace Rights and Entitlements

Understanding what you are entitled to at work can be confusing. To help you out, we have compiled the industrial instruments that outline your workplace rights and entitlements below:

SSO Role Description

Your role description outlines the purpose, duties and responsibilities of being an SSO. You should familiarise yourself with it and work within its scope.

Your Pay-Rise

Did you know that the pay-rise that NSW public servants receive every year is fought for and won by the PSA? The pay rises are not automatic but require the PSA to lodge a pay case in the Industrial Relations Commission every year to negotiate the maximum pay-rise allowable (2.5 per cent) with the NSW government.

This year, the PSA fought and lobbied hard to obtain the 2.5 per cent pay-rise for our members, negotiating up from the 1.5 per cent that the government initially offered. This pay-rise is divided into a 2.04 per cent pay increase and a 0.5 per cent superannuation increase. The pay-rise will be backdated to the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2021 and is estimated to be implemented in your pay in mid-September.

It pays to be a member of the union!

Your SSO Union Delegates are:

Sydney Metropolitan Lauren Dibiasi

Homebush Boys High School

NSW Regional North Callum Baillie

Tomaree High School

NSW Regional South and

Central West

Nicholas Tucknott

Canobolas Rural Technology High School

Your PSA staff and PSA SSO Delegates will be organizing regular meetings with DOE management to establish a regular forum to discuss member issues and concerns and address them formally and systematically. If you have collective workplace issues you would like raised contact your Delegate or log it with the PSA on 1300 772 679.

Do you know someone who still needs to join the PSA?

Encourage your SSO colleagues to join the PSA online @ https://psa.asn.au/join/ in order to add to the strength of the PSA so that we can continue to advance and protect your interests.
