SYDNEY INSTITUTE REFORM

The PSA/CPSU have lodged a dispute with TAFE NSW over Sydney Institute of TAFE’s attempt to create new positions that sit outside the current classification.

Accordingly, we expect that under the terms of the dispute clause contained in the TAFE Commission of NSW Administrative, Support and Related Employees Enterprise Agreement 2013, the restructure will be on hold until the dispute has been resolved.

If members are asked to undertake or implement any part of the proposed reform they need to contact their local delegate ASAP or the PSA/CPSU Member Support Centre on 1300 772 679.

JOIN YOUR CAMPAIGN ACTION GROUP

During the first week back of fourth term, members and organisers were out in force at Ultimo and St George campuses to highlight to students how the cuts to TAFE would affect them. This was followed up by workplace meetings to form Institute Campaign Action Groups, whose aim is to work with local community groups to highlight exactly what is happening to TAFE and how it will affect them.

Members started early at 7.15 in the morning to provide information and ask the public to support TAFE NSW by signing a petition requesting that the cuts to staff numbers, course hours and support services be abandoned.

Members need to continue to raise awareness of what’s happening to TAFE and the responsibility that the NSW Baird Government has to maintain its Community Service Obligations. This will not be achieved by privatising services.

If you’d like to be involved in your Institute Campaign Action Group please contact Shane Jobberns at

TAFE CUTS COMMUNITY FORUM

All staff are welcomed to a Community Forum to be held on Tuesday 28 October 2014 at the Gymea Tradies (57 Manchester Road, Gymea) at 6pm.

This is an opportunity to invite family and friends along to hear what we can do collectively about the NSW Government’s TAFE Cuts. Speakers include PSA Assistant General Secretary Steve Turner, as well as Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon and NSW Teachers Federation Assistant General Secretary Maxine Sharkey.
