As previously advised, PSA members at Taronga Zoo and Taronga Western Plains Zoo were directed by management to sign a disclosure form which had been modified from the original without any consultation.
The new form had Parts A, B and C. The PSA delegates received a number of phone calls and emails from members raising their concerns with the changes that were made to the original disclosure form. PSA delegates and representatives met with Taronga Zoo management in relation to the changes to the form and management’s directions.
The PSA was of the view existing legislative requirements and Taronga Zoo Code of Conduct policies were adequate in regards to conflict of interests, animal welfare and outside employment.
Through proper consultation, Taronga Zoo management has agreed to withdraw Part B of the disclosure form which related to declaring animal interest outside of the organisation. On that basis, the PSA advises members to only sign Part A and Part C of the disclosure form which relate to conflict of business interest and outside/secondary employment.
