University of Newcastle: CPSU NSW bargaining update
Your union met with the university to progress bargaining on 17 and 18 February. CPSU NSW proposed a pay offer of 15.2 per cent over the life of the agreement, which the unions have proposed as a four-year deal. The university has rejected this due to the belief that they do not know what 2029 will bring and whether it is affordable.
Your union is disappointed as University of Newcastle has been in surplus for many years and staff have been behind CPI and proper wage growth. We believe that they can do better!
The CPSU NSW is also pressing for superannuation to be paid on unpaid primary carers leave, this seems to have been rolled together with the claim of 17 per cent super for casual employees, and the university is reticent to commit.
