Result of Members Survey
PSA members covered by the Psychologist award who participated in our survey have unanimously accepted the Secretary’s offer to resolve the interim award proceedings of:
- Component 1 – $9000, to operate for 12 months, to be paid fortnightly with effect from 1 July 2026 and which will count as salary for all purposes; and
- Component 2 – 3% increase to the salaries from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.

Next Steps
In accordance with the outcome of the survey, the PSA has accepted the Department’s offer. The PSA and the Department are now in the process of negotiating the terms of the variation of the Psychologists award to give effect to in the agreement. We anticipate that the variation will be finalised and filed with the IRC in the next week or so. Once the IRC approves the variation, the two components of the settlement will be backdated to 1 July 2026.
The resolution of the PSA’s interim award paves the way for the IRC to determine the PSA’s claim for a largely rewritten psychologists award, including significant wage increases and the implementation of a new classification structure which correctly values the work performed by psychologists across the public service. We anticipate that the award will be in hearing in Q1 to Q2 of 2027.
The PSA is also seeking members who are willing to assist with our media campaign and those who may be prepared to act as witnesses in proceedings before the IRC. If you are interested in participating, please contact Chris Auld, Senior Organiser or your Psychology Award Advisory Group Members
