Victim Services meeting update – November 2018

PSA union meeting
A well-attended PSA Victim Services union meeting was held on 19 November 2018 to discuss a wide-ranging plethora of workplace issues.

Congratulations to Mel Kheir who was elected as PSA Delegate.

We are looking to create a Victim Services PSA Working Committee to meet and discuss workplace issues regularly. If you would like to be involved let your delegate, Mel, know.

Victim Services restructure and the requirement to consult with the PSA
Members should be aware that contrary to what Victim Services management conveyed to staff, the PSA was not informed or consulted about the restructure.

As the union representing NSW public servants, management is legally required to genuinely consult with the PSA about any “major workplace changes” particularly restructures. Member concerns about any aspect of the restructure can be expressed collectively and anonymously to management through the PSA. Throughout restructures, the PSA advocates on behalf of members. The PSA is deeply concerned that Victim Services management bypassed their legal requirement to consult with the union about the restructure.

Members are encouraged to inform the PSA about changes occurring in the workplace.

Individual issues at work
Members should contact their local delegate and call the PSA call Centre (1300 772 679) for advice and support for individual workplace matters.

Moving forward
We will be writing to Justice with member concerns following this recent PSA meeting.  The PSA will seek to establish a consultative arrangement with Victim Services management to raise workplace issues on behalf of members on a regular basis.

The PSA is YOUR voice in the workplace!
The strength and effectiveness of the union depends on you and your colleagues standing together: united we bargain, divided we beg!  As the official employee representative body the union is the only way that long-term positive change can occur in Victim Services. the union’s role is to ensure accountability, transparency and fairness in the workplace.

Encourage your colleagues to join the PSA online at psa.asn.au/join or see your PSA delegate for membership forms.

Your PSA Delegate is:

Your PSA staff are:
