‘Willing to Work’ National Inquiry

HREOC ‘willing to work’ Inquiry. Survey for PSA members – August 2015 (PDF version)

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) are currently undertaking an inquiry into age and disability discrimination called ‘Willing to Work’.

About the Inquiry

The national inquiry examines practices, attitudes and laws that deny or diminish equal participation in employment of older Australians and Australians with disability.

It makes recommendations about laws that should be amended, or action that should be taken to address employment discrimination against older Australians and Australians with disability.

Terms of reference for the inquiry

  • the obstacles faced by older persons and persons with disabilities in actively participating in the workforce
  • discrimination against older persons and persons with disabilities as a systemic problem and a considerable barrier to their human rights
  • the economic and social costs, and the costs to productivity, that result from discrimination against older persons and persons with disabilities in employment
  • the Australian Government’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights of older Australians and Australians with disability.

PSA survey & submission to the Inquiry

While there is no agreed definition for an ‘older worker’ or a ‘mature-age worker’, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) defines a mature-age worker as 45 or older.

The PSA will be making a submission to this inquiry. To ensure members’ views on this topic are accurately reflected, we hope you will take the time to participate in our survey (this should take around ten minutes).

In addition to hearing from older members and members with a disability, we are also very interested in hearing from carers and any member with an interest in this issue.

Deadline for completion of survey: Wednesday 9 September 2015

Thank you for taking the time to assist the PSA with this project.
