COI Work Bans bring TfNSW to the table: Work Bans to be lifted

On Friday 13 August, the PSA initiated Work Bans for Compliance Operation Inspectors (COIs).

Soon after the PSA initiated the bans, TfNSW lodged a dispute in the Industrial Relations Commission seeking to lift the bans. The dispute was before the IRC today and was subject to lengthy discussion between the Association and TfNSW:

The Bans will be lifted with the following commitments from TfNSW:

  1. TfNSW will pursue priority vaccination for COIs. TfNSW will initiate these steps by COB tomorrow, 17 August 2021;
  2. TfNSW will actively encourage heavy vehicle drivers to get their annual inspection at their closest facility. And for those drivers who are in declared areas, encourage them to go to their closest facility in a declared area for their annual inspection; and
  3. TfNSW will consult with the PSA on pursuing contactless ways of working.

The PSA was able to secure this significant shift in TfNSW’s position due to the Work Bans. We will ensure that TfNSW sticks to these commitments and get the safest possible outcomes as quickly as possible.

As of midnight tonight, 16 August 2021, the PSA is lifting the Bans.

We continue to encourage members to undertake their work, as much as possible, without contact with drivers.
