Crown Solicitor’s Office Joint Consultative Committee report back

Last week, PSA Delegates, industrial staff and Crown Solicitor’s Office (CSO) management attended an ad hoc Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting.

We had a very productive meeting and it seems genuine progress is being made as matters previously raised by the PSA to CSO management are being addressed with the Department committed to look for solutions in relation to workload issues and improvements in the general work conditions of staff at CSO.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Overview and background into review of legal secretaries’ duties and consultation process to seek input from other teams (legal staff, finance) to understand what “support” looks like from their perspective.
  • Looking to develop a “Practice Management Framework”, Management Development Program (for Senior Solicitor V and up) to understand delegated responsibilities
  • Clarifying and communicating CSO-wide objectives across the organisation – this is happening at the Executive Leadership Group level – and also team-level objectives, connecting them to tasks
  • More training needs to be provided to staff at CSO.
  • Health and wellbeing – working with ELG and solicitors to understand workload issues and excessive hours; committed to starting with key groups (most affected teams).

One of the outcomes of this meeting was a suggestion for PSA Delegates to get involved in focus groups especially regarding the role description reviews.

These meetings will be ongoing, with the next one scheduled for December 2021.

This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard and have an input into what you like to see happening at CSO.
