Customer Service: Introducing your new Departmental Committee
Our newly elected Customer Service Departmental Committee (DC) recently came together for their first training session as PSA delegates. They spent time learning about their important roles and responsibilities and began developing plans to strengthen the voice of PSA members across the Department of Customer Service.
Results of Annual General Meeting
Following the training, the Committee held its first Annual General Meeting. The delegates elected their new executive:
Chair
Rachel has been a PSA member for eight years and is currently the delegate for NSW Telco Authority. A career public servant, with experience across local council, state owned corporations and several state government agencies. She is committed to the values of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and transparency – including as they apply to member rights in the workplace.
She has been through more than 10 restructures, and knows the importance of union representation, especially in during periods of instability.
During this two-year term of the DC, Rachel is focussed on establishing a constructive and cooperative working relationship between this committee and DCS to support a respectful and solutions focussed culture and procedural fairness for our members.
Vice-Chair
Dan works at NSW Fair Trading, helping to shape strategies that make government services fairer, more transparent and more effective for the people of NSW.
He has a background in research and strategy working in government, the not-for-profit sector, large consultancy groups, and the ABC.
As a proud union member, Dan believes in standing up for fairness and accountability, supporting colleagues through change, and making sure everyone has a voice at work.
Secretary
Carolyn has been an active member of the PSA for 25 years and is committed to member rights and union strength. She is dedicated to supporting delegates and helping build a more connected and engaged union.
Based in the Maitland office of Revenue NSW, Carolyn served as a workplace delegate for many years before being elected Secretary of the Customer Service Departmental Committee.
Assistant Secretary
Having spent his entire career in an extremely non-unionised part of the private sector, Beris was thrilled to finally be able to become a member of the PSA. Signing up in December last year, it didn’t take long before he put himself forward for the role of delegate representing Policy, Strategy and Governance at DCS, to which he has just been elected.
In addition to fulfilling his responsibilities as part of the Departmental Committee, Beris is aiming to increase member recruitment, engagement and involvement by bringing into sharper focus the invaluable societal contributions made by workers advocating as a collective, and the possibilities for more and better change via the continued harnessing of strategic union power.
Committee members
Sahib Singh has been a proud PSA member for three years and currently represents the DCS- GSS. Enthusiastic about member rights and union strength, Sahib is committed to supporting delegates and building a more connected and active union. During the upcoming two-year term of the Customer Service Departmental Committee, Sahib aims to:
- Increase member engagement and participation
- Support members with workplace issues
- Strengthen the union and empower its members through collaboration and advocacy.
Sahib’s focus is on fostering open communication, addressing concerns promptly, and ensuring that every member feels supported and valued within the union.
Adam has been a PSA member for more than 25 years and currently represents Spatial Services at Bathurst. Prior to being elected to the DC, he was an active workplace delegate.
As a long-term PSA member with more than 27 years’ experience, Richard is a committed unionist. He is an Automotive Inspector delegate from NSW Fair Trading.
Matthew has been a PSA member for more than 20 years and currently represents Building Commission NSW. Passionate about workers’ rights and the role of the union in representing them, he is committed to building a connected and active union. During this two-year term of the DC, he aims to continue to advocate for members in relation to workplace issues.
Frank is a long-term workplace delegate from the Lithgow office of Revenue NSW. He has been a delegate for most of his 20-year membership of the PSA.
As a PSA Central Councillor, Cassandra Coleman from the Lithgow office of Revenue NSW is an ex-officio member to the DC.
In addition to the AGM, the DC discussed key issues and challenges facing members across Customer Service. These included ongoing restructures, machinery of government changes, and the growing impact of psychosocial hazards in the workplace.
