Gosford relocations meetings

Since the DFSI Executive made its announcement on 6 April to relocate more than 300 roles to Gosford by 2018, the PSA has been seeking member feedback through your workplace delegates as well as workplace visits. We would like to know what pressing issues members want pursued with Management.

PSA staff members Matthew Drake-Brockman and Merv Christensen have held workplace meetings with staff at Parramatta Lang Centre, which was open to both Lang and Marsden building staff, and Maitland OSR. Once we have completed our final visit to the remaining affected workplace, Newcastle, regular work group meetings will be held with management. These meetings will raise important member issues, which will be used to negotiate the best outcome for you.

A significant win which members have pushed for and won from management in the past fortnight is the $15,000 assistance package. Initially only available to Parramatta-based staff, it has now been extended to Maitland and Newcastle staff whether they choose to relocate to Gosford or not. Note you can only apply for assistance under either the Transferred Employment Compensation Award (TECA) or the $15,000 package. If you choose to move your residence to Gosford when your role is relocated, you may be better off applying for assistance under TECA.

Congratulations to delegates who have negotiated this outcome.

From the meetings thus far, some of the stand-out concerns include:

  • ensuring a proper transparent process for the job swap program
  • prioritising job swap opportunities for people with disabilities or mobility issues in the relocation
  • prioritising role swaps for people who may struggle with a medical condition or who have child care responsibilities/children of school age or who may be close to retirement age
  • request for voluntary redundancies in certain situations
  • parking
  • flexible work practices.

We will pursue these and other commitments from Management soon.
