It pays to belong: the PSA has secured a major win for Service NSW employees
Payment of all minutes worked begins 13 February 2026
The PSA has secured a major win for Service NSW employees. Following our successful campaign, Service NSW will, from 13 February 2026, pay all employees for all time worked, in accordance with Clause 19 Overtime of the Service NSW (Salaries and Conditions) Employees Award.
Listen HERE to Robbie Gratton, Assistant Secretary of the PSA’s Service NSW Departmental Committee explain how the PSA won this.
Summary of overtime entitlements (clause 19)
Who is entitled to overtime?
- Full‑time employees: paid overtime for directed work outside rostered ordinary hours or outside the spread of operating hours.
- Part‑time and casual employees: paid overtime for hours worked above full‑time hours for the classification, or outside the spread of operating hours.
When overtime applies:
- Work before or after rostered ordinary hours.
- Work outside the spread of operating hours.
- If rostered six consecutive days, all work on the sixth day within the spread of hours is paid at overtime rates.
- Overtime must be directed by Service NSW.
- Travel time is not overtime.
Keep your own records
To ensure you are paid correctly, it is recommended that members keep accurate records of start and finish times, breaks and any directed overtime.
This will help you confirm that overtime is being paid correctly under Clause 19 of the Award.
Union power
This win didn’t happen by chance. It happened because PSA members stood together, and the union held Service NSW to the Award. This is what union strength looks like.
Join the PSA
Now is the time to join. Only PSA members can be supported if they are not being paid correctly under the Award.
