LPI Titling & Registry Services Privatisation – April 2016 (PDF version)
The announcement on whether the Government intends to privatise the Titling & Registry Services (T&RS) unit within LPI will possibly occur this month.
The PSA held a members’ meeting in mid-April at Queen’s Square to canvass members’ views on the action they wish the PSA to take as part of our campaign to resist the Baird Government’s privatisation of the T&RS.
The input by various members has been well received within your union.
As communicated to members late last year we have been building alliances with MPs. Back in October the PSA held a meeting with MLCs David Shoebridge and Clayton Barr to brief them on the ramifications of the privatisation of LPI.
The PSA is in discussion with these MPs on current relevant issues ahead of the Government’s announcement.
Ultimately, whether privatisation goes ahead may depend upon the Upper House crossbenches passing legislation as well as the groundswell of community opposition that various stakeholders are able to generate. For example, Parliamentarians through the media, and the Law Society. The PSA is also seeking talkback radio interviews.
The PSA has prepared a document which sets out the potential implications for the community of T&RS privatisation.
The document includes scenarios that illustrate the devastating impact of a sell off which will provide a very persuasive body of evidence to convince the relevant crossbenches to reject any privatisation bill.
There is a long way to go with bringing a greater awareness to the broader community on this issue and the PSA remains committed to that goal.
